NEW LAW: 40km/h on School Days

South Australian roads has newly rolled out school zones. Since late November 2025, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport has begun to installed new speed zones on roads faster than 50km/h. These new zones, mostly on major thoroughfares will require road users to travel 40km/h between the hours of 8am-9:30am and 2pm and 4pm on school days. School days will not include public holidays or school holidays.

Existing 40km/h zones on Frederick Road, Seaton and Flaxmill Road, Morphett Vale will be updated to reflect the updated time to ensure all 40km/h school zones share the same qualities.

The inclusion of 40km/h school speed zone will not replace any 25km/h school zone that is already in operation.

Schools selected to be included in new zones will have signs installed throughout the remainder of 2025 with completion in early 2026.

The change to a 40km/h time-based school speed limit will bring South Australia in line with other states. In other states, there is already a lower speed limit for school crossings on all arterial and high-volume council roads.
